Now You’ve Seen Everything
Exercise for the mind can take many forms. While writing a Twitter client in Excel may not be your idea of a fun challenge, it sure is mine. So, I’ve decided to attach my latest mini-project, “TwExcel,” to this post. I appreciate the suggestion from Jason Ryan to call it “Excreet,” but in-the-end, I had to go with my gut (wow, so many puns there). Anyway, feel free to download and enjoy TwExcel. It actually does work and you can fully trust the Macros :).
Update: Make sure you save the file to your machine. If you click on the link above and run it over the Internet, the macros will fail. I don’t know why, that’s just the way Excel works.

I’m in awe. I don’t know whether this is cool or insane. Or both. Whichever it is, it’s very impressive. Nice work.

Thanks, Glen (I think). This is a pretty stupid project, but sometimes I just can’t stop myself.

I can’t imagine what possessed you to do it, but it’s a very interesting idea and a great demonstration of the power of Excel and the simplicity of the Twitter API. I’m glad you did it. I’m very impressed.

No,it’s not a stupid project, it could actually have some business value, for example using twitter for project status updates or whatever, getting the data back to excel for analysis and reporting!
Also, I’ve been unhappy with most of the Twitter clients I’ve come across, I’d been thinking about using Excel to craft my own (groups, filters etc.),getting started was the problem, I’ve no excuse now.

Hey Tom, you can’t get much more open source, so maybe some of this code will help you. I was thinking that it might be easier for new business users to work with Excel than one of the AIR clients.

Twitter client built in Excel. Sounds (is) ridiculous, but has some practical uses. Save and sort a conversation, for ex. [link to post] - http://twitter.com/mjkeliher/statuses/1058943082 - Posted using Chat Catcher (http://www.chatcatcher.com/) …

Tool that puts Tweets in Excel could have been named Excreet, but @swhitley took the high road. [link to post] - http://twitter.com/daveyarmon/statuses/1058990803 - Posted using Chat Catcher (http://www.chatcatcher.com/) …
