New Facebook App: My Card

mycard My third Facebook application is called My Card.  It was inspired by Kipp Bodnar of MMI Associates.  Kipp has been a huge help to me on other projects and I always look forward to his comments and suggestions.

Kipp sent me an email following the release of Newshound and asked if I could create a Facebook application that would allow people to export contact information to other applications such as Outlook and GMail.  I politely replied that, although I thought it was a great idea, I was working on other projects and wasn’t doing Facebook development right now.

Kipp’s suggestion must have sparked something in the back of my brain.  After a few days, I thought to myself, “Wouldn’t it be cool to display a virtual business card on my Facebook profile?”  I started playing around with ways to display the card and I was able to create a reasonable facsimile of a physical card in Facebook.  I added more features to the application and eventually wound up creating the ability to export vCard (Outlook) and CSV (GMail) files.  You can even create an export of all of your friends’ My Card data.

I released the application a few days ago and it has really taken off.

One of my new users left this fantastic message for me:

Of the 2500+ Facebook apps, this one is actually useful. Brilliant idea — thanks for it!

If you’re a Facebook user, you can install My Card from this link:  My Card  If you’re not a Facebook user, I would advise you to signup now.  There’s a lot going on in Facebook and you don’t want to miss it.
