Chat Catcher Updates (WordPress Plugin, RSS Widget, and SEO) – Twitter-to-blog Service
Chat Catcher 2.1 is here and there are some big changes in how the service works and what it tracks for you. If you’re not familiar with Chat Catcher, it is a “Twitter-to-your-blog” service that scans Twitter for tweets about your blog posts. When Chat Catcher finds a relevant tweet, it’ll post the tweet to your blog as a trackback or normal comment.
WordPress Plugin, Blog Script, or Scriptless
The Chat Catcher script has always been “WordPress-aware,” but now it is a full-fledged plugin. Download the new script to your WordPress plugin directory and activate it. If you do not run a WordPress blog, the Blog Script option will still post trackbacks to any blog. If you can’t transfer a script to your blog’s server, there’s still an option for you. Check out the Scriptless version of Chat Catcher that will perform pingbacks to your blog. With the Scriptless option (in addition to pingbacks), you still receive your Twitter comments via RSS and the RSS widget.
RSS Feeds & Widget Code
The RSS Lookup page allows you to query Chat Catcher and locate the RSS feed for your blog. The RSS feed will display all of the latest tweets about your blog posts. Use the RSS2HTML code and transform your RSS feed into an HTML tweet list.
Search engine listings
One of the biggest changes and probably one of the things I’m most proud of is the addition of Chat Catcher pages. The pages are searchable and include full links to your blog posts. This means that you’ll be receiving full SEO benefits when you use Chat Catcher. Remember, short urls don’t point directly to your blog, so we’ve translated those short urls to the longer links and created pages that can be indexed by Google and other search engines. The example Google-query below helps illustrate how this works:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rlz=1G1GGLQ_ENUS247&q=site:chatcatcher.com&start=10&sa=N
Now, whenever someone posts on Twitter with a short url to your blog post, you’ll get a direct link through Chat Catcher.
Disqus Integration
For those of you using Disqus with WordPress, you may have noticed that comments would not display in Disqus. The WordPress Plugin will now run a process to import comments into Disqus. Please note that you should modify your plugin to remove HTML code from your comment template and change your postTrackback flag to ‘N’. Ask for help if you’re not sure about this option.
Download the latest script and get all of the benefits of Chat Catcher 2.1.
