Spring (Feed List) Cleaning
With the demise of Feedlinx, I had to rip out all of the feeds from my feedreader and recreate my feedlist. It’s a tedious exercise, but I highly recommend it. I decided to take the opportunity to prune my feedlist and it yielded some interesting changes.
The list of blogs that didn’t make the cut say a lot about me and where I’m at in the blogosphere. As my kinfolk like to say, “It set me ta’ thinkin’.” Assuming that blogging isn’t just a fad, and I think that still remains to be seen, it would be very interesting to see snapshots of your feedlist over time. At different stages of your life, your feedlist would reveal your interests, possibly your political ideology, and maybe your views on social issues. Just as there is a tendency to become more conservative as we age, I wonder if we would see a shift in our feedlists, from radical to right-winger.
You’re dying to know who didn’t make it into my new feedlist, right? Mostly, I cut a lot of things that were impersonal, like CNN and digg. I also cut some blogs that were on my list simply because they were “A-Listers.” Dave Winer’s, ‘Scripting News” and “Scobleizer” are no longer must-reads for me. That’s not a slam on those blogs, it’s just that I’m at a different point in my life than I was in 2005.
