TRACER: Easy Web Traffic Monitoring for Important Web Pages

I’ve been working on a lot of projects over the past year.  They’re all very interesting to me or I wouldn’t be working on them, but sometimes I create something that makes me just sit back and say, “Wow!  That’s cool!”  I opened my feed reader this morning (currently GreatNews) and looked at my Tracer web stats.  The screenshot above is my display, showing 89 Views of my page, with the last few views coming from Latvia, Russia, and Finland.  I haven’t seen any other web monitoring tools with this type of RSS view.  It makes it very easy to check on the latest stats.

Web monitoring, of course, isn’t a new thing, but Tracer is a little different than other web monitoring tools.  Instead of monitoring a website, Tracer is designed to track individual pieces of web content.  That means that you should use Tracer to track things like HTML emails, individual blog posts, press releases, web pages, etc.

I’ve tried to make it as easy as possible to create a Tracer.  You literally just click on a button and then drop an invisible image into your web page.  That’s it!

You won’t get the same level of reporting detail that you would from other site monitoring tools, but that’s not really my goal.  For Tracer, the question is, “How many times has someone viewed this?”  This could be a very important question, especially if it comes from a client.

You can give it a try yourself.  It’s very new, so I’m definitely open to comments and suggestions.
