Bye-bye Baja
I just walked into my local Baja Fresh. I was anticipating the cool and refreshing Pepsi-Cola that I normally get with my meal. To my surprise, when I took my cup to the fountain, the Coke logo was plastered all over the machine. No!!! I looked frantically around, hoping that Baja would be an equal-opportunity soda vendor, but everything had been replaced with Coke products.
It’s not that I hate Coke, I don’t, but I do prefer (and am a little addicted to) Pepsi. Hey, it’s my only vice.
This happened two years ago with Subway. I was a regular customer, always enjoying my sandwich and a Pepsi. I walked in one day and the machine had been converted to Coke. It’s like when your favorite DJ leaves a radio station. No warning. No explanations. He’s just wiped away like he never existed.
I don’t really go to Subway that often anymore. I actually used to buy my sandwich at Subway and then walk across the courtyard to Baja Fresh and buy my Pepsi. I guess I’ll be eating at Baja Fresh less often now too.
I don’t know what kind of power Coke has over the fast food industry, but it’s incredible. Kudos to them, but I’m off to cross the street where I know there’s a Pepsi machine.
