Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about

Robert covers a few things in this post, but the point about the rich experience with a Windows client hits the nail for me. The only problem with Windows software is that it’s too hard to deploy and manage on a large scale. The web made things easy by allowing you to point anyone to a url and instantly use an application. However, we might have achieved even better results by figuring out how to deploy and manage rich clients more effectively. Instead, we spend half of our time monkeying with different browser versions and workarounds for HTML and javascript. I like Ajax for the richer client experience, but when it comes down to it, aren’t we really just trying to gain back what we lost when we moved to the net? There’s got to be a better way. I’m going to say it here. I think Ajax is a great way to make the transition, but I really don’t think the future is in javascript programming. At least I hope not.
