ZipLine allows you to hide posts from readers of your regular web feed and your blog. Create personalized web feeds for friends, colleagues, and clients.  Determine which individuals or groups get to see each post.

Please test this plugin thoroughly.  It is being distributed “AS-IS” and you assume all responsibility for its use.  Test your feeds to make sure that posts are hidden properly.  Never disclose information through a ZipLine feed that would be embarrassing or damaging to you or anyone else if the information became public.  While I have done what I can to eliminate bugs, I cannot guarantee that your information will be hidden in all situations.  If you cannot accept this risk, then please don’t use this plugin.

 

Custom Field

To include a post in a ZipLine web feed, add a Custom Field to the post called, “ZipLine-To”. Please note that adding this custom field will hide the post from your website and regular web feed unless you use the ‘Make Public’ option (described later).

New Feed Names

1. From the post editor, click on ZipLine Feeds (Show/Hide).
2. Next, click the Add to Custom Field button.
3. Go to the Custom Fields box and enter a name for the feed in the Value field.  Important: follow each feed name with a semi-colon (;).
4. Click the Add Custom Field button.

 

Existing Feed Names

1. From the post editor, click on ZipLine Feeds (Show/Hide)
2. Select a feed name from the dropdown.
3. Click the Add to Custom Field button.
4. Repeat Steps 2 – 3 to add multiple feed names.
5. Go to the Custom Fields box and click the Add Custom Field button.

 

About Feed Names

Feed names can be anything you like, however, it may be useful to use a person’s email address for individual feeds.  If you will distribute the feed to a group of people, be sure to use a name that identifies the group.

 

Make Public

By default, all posts that have the ZipLine-To custom field will no longer be publicly visible. If you want to display this post on your regular site and feed, you can click the Toggle Make Public button. Click the button once to make the post public. Click it again to hide it once more.

If you are not sure of the status of a post, look at the Post Slug. If the post is public, the post slug will contain the code -zplpublic. You can also change the status by adding or removing this code manually in the Post Slug.  The public status described here relates to this plugin only and is not related to the normal WordPress post status types.

 

Distributing Feeds

The URLs for your ZipLine feeds are listed on each post. Look for the list under This post is included in these feeds. Copy the feed’s URL and send that address to the recipient via email.  Let the recipient know how to subscribe to the ZipLine feed in a feed reader. 

Make sure the recipients know that these are custom feeds.  The feed should not be given to anyone else or displayed on a public website.

 

Compatibility
This plugin has been tested with WordPress 2.0.4 and should be compatible with any version at or above 2.0.

Installation

1. Download the ZipLine ZIP file. (see the end of this article for download location)
2. Extract the zipline.php file and copy it into your WordPress plugins directory (wp-content/plugins).
3. Login to WordPress Admin.
4. Create a ZipLine Key by adding a hidden link. Go to the Blogroll (or Links) tab and insert a link with the following attributes:
   • Link Name: ZipLine-Key (Please use the correct UPPER and lower case.) 
   • Link Description: {Your Secret Code}  (Example:  hd15732)
   • Visible: No
5. Go to the Plugins page and click Activate for ZipLine.
